Julie Tarney is a tireless advocate for LGBTQ+ youth and author of the award-winning memoir, MY SON WEARS HEELS: One Mom’s Journey from Clueless to Kickass. With humor, personal stories and lessons learned from her gender-nonconforming son, Julie uses her public speaking talent and an engaging, accessible approach to help people navigate the current revolutionary changes related to gender identity, sexual orientation and gender expression.
Julie has been featured in The New York Times, HuffPost and Chicago Tribune, as well as on National Public Radio. She is a frequent speaker for PFLAG NYC educational presentations.
Julie is available to address corporate, conference and university audiences, talk to organizational groups or join panel discussions with topics that further understanding and support of transgender, gender-nonconforming or gender-expansive children and youth.
Julie’s son, Harry, a 27-year-old Millennial who identifies as gender nonbinary, is available to co-present and has enjoyed speaking at events in the past.
