Turns out that my fave humorist David Sedaris is also a huge fan of Logo TV’s RuPaul’s Drag Race. At least that what he tells Mark Lawson in this fun interview on the BBC’s Front Row: Cultural Exchange. Sedaris mentions his favorite contestant and gives a formula for creating your drag queen name. Only I remember the formula differently, as it’s the same way biological women find their stripper name.
You take the name of your first pet and the name of the first street you lived on. According to my son, no drag queens do that. His drag identity has changed several times since age 16. He’s gone from Catty Foxxx to Rosetta Stone to the now dangerously celebrated Amber Alert. While David Sedaris doesn’t mention his drag name, I’m hopeful his love for Drag Race may land him a spot as a guest judge in the upcoming season 6.
So what’s your formulated drag or stripper name? Please share in comments. I, Taffy Hollywood, want to know.
