There’s nothing like a short video that can entertain, inform, make you think and get you talking. Here are a few that cover all the bases. I think the first one hits it out of the park.
KIDS WHO BULLY.
If adults bullied the way kids do, we’d be horrified. I was rattled to the core the first time I saw this powerful (and disturbing) video from Not in Our School. I urge you to watch it, share it and talk about with friends who have children in their lives.
And for tips on how to teach kids to be “UPstanders” if they see a classmate bullying another, here’s a great instructional piece from educator and parenting expert Michele Borba, Ph.D.
SWEDEN’S GENDER-NEUTRAL PRONOUN GOES VIRAL.
On the same day The Huffington Post published my blog about personal pronouns, Newsweek ran a story, titled “The Three Letter Word Driving a Gender Revolution.” The article reports on the gender-neutral pronoun “hen,” quickly adapted by Swedish children and adults after preschools in Stockholm began using it two years ago. Next year “hen” will be included in the new Swedish dictionary.
HuffPost Live’s “QueerView” host Josh Zepps asked me to join a conversation on his show yesterday about Sweden’s revolutionary new pronoun. You’ll find the segment here at time-stamp 10:43.
“SOME PEOPLE ARE ‘THEY.’ GET OVER IT.”
Meanwhile, back in the U.S., where rigid gender walls continue to crumble, “they” continues to gain momentum among youth as their singular personal pronoun, and not just on Facebook. Check out this linguistically wonderful short by writer and presenter Tom Scott, one of my fave Londoners.
